Outside the Classroom

Dr. Tom Hennessey was awarded the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award on November 4, 2009.   Dr. Hennessey is a full professor in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology & Management and began teaching forestry courses at Oklahoma State University in 1976.  He has taught 6 different courses during that time and has focused on 2 specific courses for the last 4 years.  He teaches NREM 3112 (Silvics and Silviculture) at our forestry summer camp and NREM 4213 (Forest Ecophysiology) in the fall semester.   These courses are required classes in the forestry curriculum but other students also take them, and clearly the students appreciate his courses.  Comments from his students include:  “Best instructor at OSU”, “best class I’ve had”, and “He cares”.  Tom has a very good rapport with undergraduate students and they respond positively to his interest.

Congratulations, Tom!
